This post is part of a series focused on featuring and
remembering those who have no known living descendants.

Emma MAYENSCHEIN ca. mid 1900's

Emma Dorothea MAYENSCHEIN was born 6 January 1889 in Maryland to Frederick W. MAYENSCHEIN and Caroline L. RAABE. She was the youngest of three daughters and the only one of her sisters to marry. Emma married Henry Charles BUCHWALD on an unknown date, probably in Maryland. I've found no record of children for Emma and Henry.

The first mention of Emma in the papers was as part of the Ladies Aid Society of St. Paul's Reformed Church. She was listed as being one of 3 young ladies in charge of the Ice Cream table as an Ice Cream waitress. "The Ladies Aid Society of Sr. Paul's Reformed Church began its annual strawberry and ice-cream festival last evening in the West Branch Young men's Christian Association Hall, Baltimore street, near Carey."
-The Baltimore Sun (Baltimore, Maryland) 4 June 1903, Thu. Pg. 7

Emma attended Western High School in Baltimore and graduated in 1907. Her name was on a list of graduates published in The Baltimore Sun (Baltimore, Maryland) 21 Jun. 1907, Sat. Pg. 7

Emma was evidently a talented an Organist. She was a member of the Baltimore Temple Glee Club and was mentioned in several newspaper articles as being present at various parties and receptions given by the club in the mid 1900's. She also held at least one organ recital at the famed Peabody Institute:

On 19 June 1907 Emma played the wedding march from "Lohengrin" at the wedding of Anna MULLENBERG and George T. HARRELL as reported in The Baltimore Sun (Baltimore, Maryland) 20 June 1907, Thu. Pg. 7

Emma's husband Henry died in 1964.
